I am a quiet 48 year old animal lover living in Bowser, BC! A true Vancouver Island girl, I was raised in Qualicum Beach where I started kindergarten and graduated high school before heading off to Victoria to attend college and become a private care nurse, specializing in Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. I come from a big family of animal lovers & animal rescuers and grew up with animals of all descriptions including dogs, cats, pygmy goats, cows, horses, miniature ponies, chickens, rabbits, pheasants, a miniature donkey, and hamsters! We even had turtles. In 2000, I moved to BC's Cariboo region where I lived for 15 years on my family's 1000 acre horse and cattle ranch surrounded by and caring for animals of all sizes. I helped birth calves and foals and raise chicks.....and had several pet foxes! I also became a Registered Nutritionist and obtained my degree in Travel & Tourism. During that time, I also traveled extensively through over 45 countries in Europe, South America, and the Caribbean, and all over Mexico, the USA and Canada. Vancouver island called me back in 2015 where I now happily reside with my senior rescue cat Marilla and two rescued chihuahuas, Roxie and Keeley. I have been blessed with being a "mom" to over 25 unique cats and over 20 beautiful dogs in my life, all rescues and several have been disabled. My first cat was a beautiful pure white cat named Fluffy who had one blue eye and one green eye, a bright pink nose and loved cauliflower and corn on the cob. My first dog was a beagle cross named Tippy who I loved to dress up in my doll clothes! I adore all animals! I really feel I have a special connection with them. My dream, which I am determined to fulfill, is to have an animal sanctuary that gives unwanted, elderly, and disabled animals a “furever” home and I will name it after my beautiful best friend (& Irish Setter) Hannah.
In my spare time you will find me covered in cat and dog hair in my garden with my furkids, taking photographs, cooking vegetarian meals, walking the beach looking for seaglass and shells, researching travel destinations, attempting to be crafty, painting, attending community events, visiting with good friends, listening to music, watching documentaries and BBC, and exploring this beautiful island, all with my animal loving and talented husband Darren who is a psychologist specializing in Autism and spectrum disorders and a woodworker/cabinet maker and musician. I like to keep myself educated and am always keeping myself updated when it comes to animal care.
I also enjoy supporting in different ways various BC animal based charities including 3 local cat rescue organizations, a small dog rescue organization, and am an approved foster cat mother through the BCSPCA.
